MALLORCA SPORTS & ACTIVITIES

Mallorca is a paradise for outdoor sports: 300 days of sunshine, pleasant temperatures and perfect infrastructure make every athlete’s heart beat faster.

Mallorca and sport, a perfect relation – At least cyclists and golfers noticed many years ago that Mallorca is the perfect destination to combine pleasure, sports and holidays. Cyclists had been the first ones who established an own tourism sector in the off-season and golfers strengthen the quality tourism and find variety on 24 golf courses and magnificent fairways with sea views.

The summer belongs to the water sportsmen. Then it gets colorful and lively in the waves when canoe-rowers, stand-up-paddlers, swimmers and divers share the cool water. To find a place for each passion is no problem even in the high season thanks to 550 km coast line.

Even hikers discover the variety of Mallorca sport possibilities and encourage the Tramuntana mountains, especially in the off-season. It’s not just busy pensioners on vacation who climb the peaks, also locals and families are drawn to the mountains. They seek relaxation and tranquility and are rewarded with spectacular views.

There are so many opportunities for sport activities in Mallorca … We only want to introduce some and betray the best places. Some are worth a short trip, others are almost unknown, but they all combine the passion to move outdoor in a dreamlike nature.

CYCLING IN MALLORCA

Mallorca, sports and cycling belong together – that´s is no longer a secret.
Around 150,000 cyclists come every year to the island and have become an important industry. Especially in spring, colorful groups of cyclists pass the roads, strain the patience of local motorists and call entire regions their territory. The flat and long bay of Alcudia belongs to the so called “sharks”, those who don´t stop, and the mountainous southwest is reserved for connoisseurs.

Around 20 years ago, cycling tourism arose in Mallorca. At that time, mainly men groups rode on rather bumpy slopes over the island. Mallorca has recognized and responded to the opportunity: Today, the largest parts of the island are well developed, a true dream for racing bike fans and the proportion of women is already 35 percent. Ascending!

But there is also a new trend coming up: cycling with e-bike, whether with guided groups or on your own. With assisted cycling even untrained persons can easily drive up to 60 km per day, pass the mountains and usually pay more attention to the beautiful nature. Some bike tour operators have already adapted their offer and run so-called “cappuccino groups”, the connoisseurs of cyclists, which discover the most beautiful places of Mallorca by e-bikes. Coffee and photo stop included.

Mallorca is a paradise for cyclists.

THE CYCLING ROUTES

Castell Route

A nice tour for everyone, whether by e-bike, road bike or city bike, leads from Castell Son Claret via Es Capdella downhill through the “Green Valley” to Paguera. From here, the bike path “Passeig de Mallorca”, which connects Paguera with Palma, leads the way to Santa Ponsa. At the characteristic windmill, the path leads back by the former, little-used road to Calvia and Es Capdella. The beautiful trip is easy to drive in 4 hours with several stops and break and leads on traffic-calmed roads and bike paths. On the only significant slope from Paguera to Costa de la Calma the bike can be pushed depending on the condition.
